This notice explains what we collect when you join the Start SEO early access list, why, who handles it, how long we keep it, and your rights. It also explains the anonymous statistics we record when you play our video.
Who we are
Start SEO is a trading name of START SEO LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 14208229). Registered office: 2 Clifton Moor Business Village, James Nicolson Link, York, YO30 4XG.
We are the controller of the personal data described here. We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), registration number ZC277035.

What we collect
When you join the early access list, we keep:
- Your email address.
- Your answers to the optional questions, if you give them: your website address, what your site is built on, and which plan interests you.
- When you signed up, and which of the two forms on the page you used. Your place in the queue counts from this time.
- A record of your consent: the wording you agreed to and when, and when you confirmed your email address.
We do not store your IP address, and we do not use analytics or advertising cookies on this page.
When you play our video
When you play our video, we record anonymous statistics: that it was played, how far it was watched, and whether captions or sound were on. We use no cookies for this, store nothing on your device, and cannot identify you. The statistics are never linked to a sign-up, and we delete them after 13 months.
We also count how many times each page is viewed each day. We keep only the daily total, with nothing about you or your visit.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use your details to:
- send the email that asks you to confirm your address, and one reminder if you have not confirmed after about two days;
- send updates as we build towards launch, invite you in the order you signed up, and send news and offers about our services;
- understand what kind of sites and plans people are interested in, so we can plan the service.
Our lawful basis is your consent, which you give by joining the list and confirming your email address. You can withdraw it at any time (see "Your choices" below).
Who handles it for us
We use a small number of service providers. They act on our instructions and may not use your data for their own purposes.

Unconfirmed sign-ups stay with Cloudflare only. Your details reach HubSpot only once you confirm your email address.
Where a provider processes data outside the UK, it relies on safeguards UK law recognises: the UK's adequacy arrangements for the United States (the UK-US data bridge), or the EU standard contractual clauses with the UK Addendum.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.
How long we keep it
- If you never confirm your email address, we delete your sign-up 12 months after you made it. Until then, the link in your email still works.
- If you confirm, we keep your details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them, or until we stop running the list.
- When you unsubscribe, we keep a note of your email address so we do not email you again by mistake.
Your choices and rights
- Unsubscribe at any time with the link at the bottom of any of our update emails, or by emailing hello@startseo.co.uk.
- You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict how we use it, or to receive it in a portable format. You can also object to how we use it.
Email hello@startseo.co.uk and we will reply within one month.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, please tell us first so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO): ico.org.uk, or 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your data, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change affects you significantly, we will tell you by email first.
